While out on bail, a man charged with almost $2 million worth of mortgage fraud was at it again. Facing 45 felony charges, the man decided to make good use of his time out of jail, but was busted by the same people for the same crimes as last time. The Columbus Mortgage Fraud Task Force is responsible for seven arrests in the past few weeks, including the parolee that returned to old ways. The Force was formed at the time the man was originally being investigated last year.
The Force was in response to not only this man, but also the mushroom cloud of mortgage fraud that has seized the nation. The forming of the Force has bypassed some federal privacy laws, as well as receiving wide jurisdiction that can span statewide. The Force has busted multiple organized cases, while racking up more than 100 felony charges to those accused. The strategy is not to investigate individuals, but rather combine forces that can spread state or nationwide.
